Worlds First Black Super Model

In honor of Black History Month I am going to honor some of our trailblazers that paved the way in both fashion and modeling alike. Today, I'm shining the spotlight on the first black super model. When we think of these women Tyra, Beverly Johnson and Naomi comes to mind. Upon further research however, you will find there was a beautiful woman before all of them. Her name was Donyale Luna, and she was the first black woman to grace the cover of Vogue. Pretty awesome accomplishment in 1966 right! She was terribly beautiful and, could not go unseen standing 6'2 in height. Towards the end of her career she suffered turmoil at the hands of drug abuse that lead to her being plagiarized as a weirdo in the industry and she died in Italy in 1979. Although not the ending hoped for, her accomplishments still need to be recognized as the TRUE first black super model. Shine on Luna, shine on!
