Black History Month: Soul Train Edition

Today the world was shook by the passing of the great Don Cornelius, founder of the iconic show Soul Train. He started this show with 400.00 of his own money in 1971. From there, he gave US a place on T.V. to showcase our talents and learn the hippest dance moves! The first guests on the show were, Jerry Butler, The Chi-Lites and, the Emotions. It was a rites of passage for anyone who considered themselves a musician. Not only for the music, the fashion was our reference for what was cool and hip for us to look our best. From huge afros to plaids, bell-bottoms, pin stripes and everything in between. Every color, pattern and cut could be found shaking it down the legendary Soul Train Line (my personal highlight). Yes, out hearts are heavy, but on this first day of Black History Month, lets smile and look back at sweeter days from a legend who paved the way and who's genius will live on.
