Grammy's Fashion Wrap Up

Last night was my most FAVORITE awards show, the Grammys. Not only because I absolutely love music but the fashion is on another level. This is the night that all of the top people in music pull out all the stops. J-Lo and Amber Riley from Glee got my vote for best dressed of the night. Jennifer wore Pucci and I just lover her more and more each day. Kim K looked like a mix of a Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez mix, but the look worked for her in a gold sequins gown with a plunging neckline. She oozed sexiness. Nicki Minaj failed again but I think she likes people talking about her good or bad. Rihanna probably had the most talked about look in a Jean Paul Gautier dress that looked like cotton garland that was totally revealing. People wondered if she wore undergarments. Jennifer Hudson is still on a fierce streak in Versace. But please, don't loose anymore weight! More winners than losers last night, check who I loved!

Look of Day Taraji P. Henson

With the kick off of New York Fashion Week, all the celebs are in full swing in the big apple. At the BCBG MaxAzria show held yesterday,a bevy of celebrities were in attendance. Everyone from Kelly Rowland,Ashanti, and our focus for the day Taraji P. Henson. To me,she is like the girlfriend you never had. She seems mad cool and based off her Twitter game, she seems very down to earth. At any rate, she stood out to me in this FAB one shoulder, nude colored, floral dress that was everything to me when I seen it! It has the comfortable one shoulder draping that is trendy and sexy all at once. Then the bottom half is fitted to finish off the look. She rocked an also muted, natural colored open toe pump with the look. She looks effortlessly chic in this piece and I'm sure we will see more of her this New York Fashion Week as well.

Karl Kani- Black History Month Spotlight

As of today, we are all familiar with Sean John, Rocawear,Phat Farm, G-Unit, Akoo, and a host of other hip hop geared clothing lines. In continuing with my Black History spotlight, we must recognize who came before all of them, the blueprint if you will. His name is Carl Williams, and in 1989 he started Karl Kani. Carl hails from Brooklyn and is very much a self starter that seen a void in the way of menswear and quickly capitalized. With no formal training in tailoring, he had a vision of how black people wanted their clothes to fit. Noticing that people of the urban community did not like how typical jeans were cut, his signature style included lots of baggy jeans and bold colors that made us stand out while complementing our vast skin tones.
Carl went on to gain national popularity by appealing to hip hop celebrities like P Diddy, Redman, AZ ,Tupac, and Notorious B.I.G. All it takes is for your clothes to be mentioned in music to take your career to the next level. And next level, it definitely went.
Named the Godfather of Urban Fashion, in 1996 he was named on of the richest African Americans by Time magazine. Not bad at all! Today Carl is pretty much basking in his success from the hey day as the industry is over saturated with urban clothing lines. Just remember as you marvel at the urban looks of today, remember who started it all. His name is Carl and back in the day Karl Kani was an unstoppable force! This is your Black History fact for today.

Look of Day

With the 17th Annual SAG Awards taking place this past Sunday, its only right that today's look of the day come from the event. As usual, lots of actors and actresses sizzled. Some more than others but, this look here was my personal favorite of the night. Here is Jennifer Lawrence in a very vibrant Oscar De La Renta gown that not only demanded attention but held long after she was gone. The focal point is the striped sleeve but check out the split in that dress as well! The color kicked butt in a major way. Fierce times 10! The look was pulled together by an elegant black belt that was tied together with some stupid hot Roger Viver satin pumps. I don't have enough good stuff to say about this look. Jennie betta WERK! lol

Worlds First Black Super Model

In honor of Black History Month I am going to honor some of our trailblazers that paved the way in both fashion and modeling alike. Today, I'm shining the spotlight on the first black super model. When we think of these women Tyra, Beverly Johnson and Naomi comes to mind. Upon further research however, you will find there was a beautiful woman before all of them. Her name was Donyale Luna, and she was the first black woman to grace the cover of Vogue. Pretty awesome accomplishment in 1966 right! She was terribly beautiful and, could not go unseen standing 6'2 in height. Towards the end of her career she suffered turmoil at the hands of drug abuse that lead to her being plagiarized as a weirdo in the industry and she died in Italy in 1979. Although not the ending hoped for, her accomplishments still need to be recognized as the TRUE first black super model. Shine on Luna, shine on!

Look of the Day The Obama's

Never have I ever been so proud to who my president is. And when I mention his name, his co pilot Michelle can not go unmentioned. This lady has brought serious glamour to the White House and has been the subject of conversations since before inauguration. As of late, one designer in particular has had some negative comments about Mrs.O. Oscar De La Renta has publicly criticised her for wearing the late Alexander McQueen's gown to the China State Dinner this past Wednesday. This criticism comes from the fact that this dress is very similar to one of his designs that was in Fall 2010 show. Also the fact that McQueen was neither an American or Chinese designer. Yada Yada Yada... Either way the comments were not necessary and I don't love her any less! She sizzles in this dress with both sexiness and class. None of this is to take away from the fabulousness that is our president! He too looked just as hot! Love these two and in my opinion, nothing comes close! SUPA FIERCE!

Golden Globes Red Carpet 2011

The first award show of the year kicked off tonight and it was dazzeling! The weather in LA was nice and warm and the celebrities matched the climate. Lots and I mean lots of nude colored gowns graced the runway from everyone to Nicole Kidman, Megan Fox, Carrie Underwood and Glee star Heather Morris. It was clearly the color of the night as was black. So,much to my delight,I was very happy to see pops of color from Angelina Jolie in a Fab deep green Versace gown as well as MY favorite of the night Olivia Wilde in Marchesa and another Glee favorite Amber Riley. As usual Halle Berry made jaws drop times 10 in her sexy Nina Ricci piece that just makes me sick. Eva Longoria wore Zac Posen and looked hot and newly single. Sofia Vergara redeemed herself after several past red carpet fails in a fushia Vera Wang or "Wong" as she pronounced it all night. lol There were a few let downs in the way of the ever talented Natalie Portman and a favorite of mine Sandra Bullock. I liked the new bangs on her though. One who didnt let me down however is Anne Hathaway who wore one of her favorites Giorgio Armani Prive'. Check out the photos of those who made the Fierce cut!

If Money were NO Object

In my quest to get my mind blown from the feet up,I stumbled upon this seriously FIERCE Gucci bootie. This suede fringed bootie is called to Akerman and will set you back a cool $1190.00 smackers! This is a neutral color that can work in lots of ways as a wow factor. I see this with some silk jodphur style pants in a chocolate brown with a a taupe colored blouse with a big floppy bow on the shoulder. That's just me though!

Rayven Symone Look of the Day

By now you have seen this picture of the "new" Rayven Symone minus about hey I dont know about 20 pounds. She hit the red carpet for the Peoples Choice Awards and wow'd the crowd with a new physique. She has always been a beautiful, positve role model for young girls but this should inspire healthy fitness as well. She has went on record as saying that since loosing the weight, she still wears over sized cloths because everyone is so taken aback by her weight lose. Well Ray Ray,you should be proud to flaunt this new hot body any and everywhere you see fit. I'm sure she worked hard for it.This multi millionaire mogul has channeled her business savy smarts into getting right in the waistline area. This too should serve as motivation to keep up your weight loss goals.

William Rast for Target

So Target is currently carrying William Rast for a limited time. If you don't know the designers behind this fresh label, one may ring a bell Justin Timberlake. He along with Trace Ayala put their heads together to come up with this bohemian/rocker chick line back in 2005. Originally it started as a denim line but quickly evolved to include both women and menswear. Starting at LA Fashion Week, they have since graced the runways of NY Fashion Week and attracted a nice following.
Now debuting at Target, the line is full of cool, relaxed tomboy looks that are both trendy and fashionable all within a comfortable price range. I picked out some of my favorite looks like the fringed leather jacket and the high waist, plaid top dress. Oxfords go really well with alot of this lines looks. The line debuted on Dec 19th and will be available til Jan 22nd so check em out. Online is probably your best bet for availability. Very nice Tar'get, very nice!

The Evolution of...Jennifer Hudson

When J Hud came on the scene via American Idol she was looked at as a sure fire winner hands down. When the powers that be decided otherwise,we all rooted for her when she blew our minds in Dreamgirls. One thing that always could be said, was the fact that she was the face of real women around the way. She had real curves,a very down to earth personality and cute as a button.
As we view her evolution, we can see that things started a little choppy in the way of ill fitted dresses and bad hair. Then once the nominations start coming in,things got good, real good!! She lost some weight, had a baby, got a new man and things were looking up. Tragedy struck and we all know that story. Any who, what I wanna focus on is, what we think when we hear her name today....WOW! This girl has lost major weight, looks better than ever and can put a majority of America to straight shame right now.Let this serve as motivation to all who have resolved to lose a few this year. Things had a bumpy start but boy is she on a roll now...lets take a trip down memory lane shall we!

New Year New You!

With the turning of a new year comes a time to resolve to turn over new leaves, drop bad habits and make this year better than the last. Also with a new year, you should resolve to be the best version of yourself in all aspects. I am a strong believer of when you look better you feel better. Not everyone is blessed with a model like figure but that doesn't mean that we can feel just as FIERCE. In taking steps to look your best, keep in mind that what works for someone else doesn't work for all. We cant all rock EVERY trend that hits the runway. Find one that works for you at a time, and keep everything else classic.
If your into the biker trend, rock just the jacket and keep everything else classic. If you love the military trend, rock the combat boots with the cargo's and keep everything else minimal. When rocking an animal print, simplicity is key. Say this with me: One at a time! That means, just the shoes, just the purse, just the dress or cardigan. Just don't deck yourself out head to toe in a consistent print. It screams "look at me" as opposed to grabbing all the attention by doing it the right way.
When considering how much to spend on what, invest in classics and penny pinch on trends. They come and go but classics will always work, thus is where the most money should be sent. With the way of the world, one cant fathom spending upwards of 300.00 on boots, jeans a sweater or coat. However, when looking at the variety of ways it will last, not to mention durability,it makes sense actually.
I know that my blog normally contains pictures but this time I just wanted to hit you with a little knowledge to start your new year off on a FIERCE foot. I hope that this advise helps and I look forward to seeing all my FAB ladies looking as shiny as brand new 2011 penny! Stay Fierce gals!

A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.-CoCo Chanel

Shoe of the Day

This is one of my easiest and most fun things to write about because shoes are a true love to me! Today we are channeling Gwen Stefani in the way of her FAB L.A.M.B. wool lace-up bootie that is just right for this time of year. This is also a very versatile look with the two tone Brown and Cognac that can add pop to an otherwise dull outfit. The wool trimming adds texture while keeping those ankles warm and fuzzy.

Touch Screen Gloves Yessss!

I have noticed something in the way of fashion that is really really missing from my life! With the change in the weather going from cool to down right frigid,to go outside without gloves is hand suicide. With my recent phone upgrade to an all touch phone, the need for gloves that accommodate me is a must. So, after my hands melted,I hit the Internet to find just that. I found a website www.nextag.com and found a plethora of different colors in cotton and leather. How these things work is beyond me,all I know is whoever made these is genius! The price range is about $30.00 to $35.00 which isn't bad at considering what they do. There is also another website www.180s.com,they have some hot ones too from $40.00-$80.00.I don't know if you have an IPad, touch, phone or like me the Evo,but in this weather, these are a must!

Look of Day Kim K

Kim K rocked this hip hugging jersey knit dress with front draping and a silk belt to complete the look. She keeps the makeup and jewelry minimized with a side sweep hairdo. This proves less is more sometimes when your a natural beauty like her. She works hard but manages to look fab along the way! Go girl!

4 Reasons to Love Winter

I know that at times like this we cant wait for the weather to break so that we can have some release from this brutal cold. While Fall is my favorite time of year, winter is a different story. I dread getting gas, going to the store etc... Well ladies, I want to try and give you 4 reasons why you may wanna look forward to braving that horrible hawk outside...

Scarves

These wear a staple in my grandmothers wardrobe and upon her passing, I inherited most of them. Lucky me!! She had classic style that was always noticed and mimicked. To keep her legacy alive, I like to incorporate these into my style one way or the other ALL the time. Now most of my grandmothers scarves are silk so I like to tie them around my neck is the most obvious use.You can check out YouTube to find out different ways to do this. But also I tie them around my head as headbands, also I tie them on the handles of my purses to add flair. For longer scarves you can use as belts as well.

Faux Fur

This is a cheap way to look like you spent a grip! The hottest trend with this material is in the form of vest. They come in a variety of colors and thickness but I like to go with a multi colored one that can be worn multiple ways. You can wear a totally solid color up under, for instance black skinny jeans and a long sleeve black v-neck top and you favorite over the knee boots or booties, throw that vest on,and your ready. Stack on some bracelets, add a metallic belt and your in their like swimwear. You can also top the vest over a sheath or A-line style dress with tights and booties as well and that's it. This is a stand alone statement piece,so no need to go all out with lots of accessories or other busy prints.

Boots

This is a no brainer for anyone who knows anything about fashion. Boots have made huge strides over the years and have evolved to a must have for any and everybody. Every woman should own a pair of knee boots, booties, wedge boot, flat boots as well as some comfy ones with a lil fur. I advise against petite women wearing calf lenght boots because it cuts you off and makes you look even more short. Go for either a bootie with matching tights,or a long knee or over the knee boot. Tall women can do whatever cause you have the legs for it. Lucky You! A variety of colors is key to make sure you don't wear out your basic black and brown. Camel or Cognac, grey, leopard, and different variations of brown should cover your wardrobe. With you basic blacks and browns, vary your selections with suede's,leathers, zippers.

Sweaters

For full figured body types, go for V-neck,scoop necks or anything that opens up your neckline. Turtlenecks are a No No, they just make you look fuller! If going with stripes, choose small ones as opposed to big ones. Cashmere is obviously the most luxurious but if not a big spender, go for a rich wool that feels good up against your skin that can withstand a few washes. Line dry for best results. Keep a lint roller on deck to keep it looking sharp and clean.

Coats

Trench coats are a necessity that never go out of style and can be worn weather its raining or not. Wool or your standard cotton are both okay. Pea coats in navy blue, slate grey and classic black are versatile that work for all age groups from teens to senior citizens. Double breasted work for slender figures and single breasted for curvy women. Leather jackets are most popular right through here in the motorcycle, rocker look with zippers. Think Michael Jackson Beat It days. Try either the black or the cognac color.

I hope I have given you a reason to have a little sunshine through all this stupid cold weather and that if you haven't, make the needed adjustments to find your staples and necessities to make this winter a to shine in!

Look of the Day Halle Berry

Dec. 6, 2010 - Hollywood, California, U.S. - Halle Berry Attending The Hollywood Reporter's Power 100 Women In Entertainment Breakfast Held At The Beverly Hills Hotel In Beverly Hills, California On December 7, 2010. 2010.. .K66988LONG. © Red Carpet Pictures

Its good to be Halle Berry boy I tell ya! This chick never fails! Here she rocks a pinned stripped pant suit with an iridescent multicolored silk blouse up under. She adds dimension to the look by adding a wide gold necklace and leopard hobo style bag. This menswear look is feminized by adding darts at the waist of the jacket, minimal gold jewelry, and slight exposure of cleave! I'll be sure to send my prayers up tonight that I look half as hot at 44 years old. FIERCE!
